1. He was born into a middle class-Brahmin family. In 1876, he graduated from Deccan College in Mathematics and Sanskrit in Poona. In 1879, he completed law studies from Bombay University (now Mumbai). In addition, he decided to teach mathematics at a private school in Poona from where his political life began.

2. He founded the Deccan Education Society in 1884 to educate the people, especially in the English language, as he and his colleagues believed that English was a powerful language for liberal and democratic ideals.

3. Lokmanya Tilak started awakening people through newspapers like Marathi in the Lion and Til the Mahrat in English.Both these letters soon became very popular among the people. Tilak criticized the brutality of British rule and complex towards Indian culture. He demanded the British government to give full swaraj to Indians immediately.

4. Ganesh by Bal Gangadhar Tilak in 1893 and Shivaji in 1895 made two important festivals in public. Through these festivals, he wanted to muster up the courage to fight in public against patriotism and the injustice of the British.

5. Bal Gangadhar Tilak united the Indian National Congress (INC) in 1890. He raised the slogan of Swaraj.
